“He [Jesus] saw a seriously handicapped woman who had been bent double for eighteen years and was unable to straighten herself. Calling her over to him Jesus said, “Woman, you are healed of your sickness!” He touched her, and instantly she could stand straight. How she praised and thanked God! But the local Jewish leader in charge of the synagogue was very angry about it because Jesus had healed her on the Sabbath day. “There are six days of the week to work,” he shouted to the crowd. “Those are the days to come for healing, not on the Sabbath!” But the Lord replied, “You hypocrite! You work on the Sabbath! Don’t you untie your cattle from their stalls on the Sabbath and lead them out for water? And is it wrong for me, just because it is the Sabbath day, to free this Jewish woman from the bondage in which Satan has held her for eighteen years?” This shamed his enemies. And all the people rejoiced at the wonderful things he did.” Luke 13:11-17 TLB (emphasis mine)

Did you see that…?! That judgy judger, that “local Jewish leader” attempted to correct the Ruler of the Rules and Jesus drops the mic…right. at. his. feet… BOOM!! This synagogue leader tells Jesus that He can’t be healing on the day of rest and Jesus, the beautiful rebel that He was, does it anyway.

And did you notice what Jesus said about the woman?? He said, “the bondage in which Satan has held her for eighteen years?”

Do you know what this means, to us? Jesus saw her! He saw her physical struggle, the discomfort, the pain and He knew who was responsible for it!! It wasn’t some illness, something science or doctors could diagnose, something she could take a pill for, or have surgery to correct…it was Satan!  The king of lies was responsible for her suffering!

Ladies, please get a hold of this! In how many ways are we suffering?? We suffer over our thoughts, our circumstances, our physical needs/limitations, over our children, our husbands, our parents, and simply because of life in general.

Can I get a witness?!

And Jesus…He released her from her bondage!

Can we give a lil whoop whoop, do a lil shaky shake, a dancey dance, this is some goooood news! We should be so over-the-top excited about what Jesus did for this woman because He does the same for us! And think about it, He not only healed her, but He had her back! Look at how He was quick to correct that man and show him how guilty he was of his own actions “on the Sabbath.” Jesus stood up for and defended this woman! She’s not the only one He did this for, remember the woman caught in adultery? Boom! He did the same thing for her too.  We women are important to Jesus. Those beautiful interactions He had with women are some of His ways that He lets us know that no matter where we’re at in life, or what we’ve done, He sees us, truly knows us, and completely loves us.

Does it get anymore amazing?! I don’t think so.

Now it’s your turn to reflect on those moments, whether big or small, that you have seen Him deliver you. How old were you? Where did you live? What was going on in your life at the time?  Take your time. There’s no rush. Sometimes we quickly remember a situation because it was a big deal. Other times we really have to look deeper into a situation to see how He worked in the tiniest details. Let’s start with age:
How old were you?
Where were you living?
hat was going on in your life at the time?
How did He heal/deliver/release/save you from this “bondage?”

Use this time to pour out your thankfulness to Him for what He has done. “No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” Thessalonians 5:18 TLB
